It's important to consider that only essential pieces of furniture should find a place in the kitchen and place at points that will eliminate unnecessary walking backwards and forwards.
The principal pieces of equipment such as the stove ,cupboards ,sink ,refrigerator should grouped as close together as possible.
Work done in the kitchen can be divided into groups which are:
storage of food, preparation of food, cooking and serving of meals and clearing away and washing of dishes.
When planning a kitchen ,it's very important to bear in mind the four types of work and these should follow the logical order .The food storage cupboards and the refrigerator could be near the back door for it's the point the food enter the kitchen .A table or counter for preparing food for meals should be placed between the storage cupboards and the stove. The sink should not be too far away for it's where the vegetables are washed and prepared.
The rubbish bin must be placed near the sink to receive pearings.Near the sink there shoul be a cupboard for storing the utensils after cleaned.
Utensils and Ingredients: At the storage area there will be a storage area for the safe keeping of perishables..Next to it ,the storage cupboard for drying ingredient such as flour ,sugar etc.
At the preparation area ,above and below will contain such things as pastry boards ,rolling pin, mixing bowls ,saucepans ,forks ,knives etc.
The cupboards at the serving area will hold every dishes, meat platters ,glass plates for salads etc.
The whole idea is to store all the utensils and ingredients at the place where they will be needed ,this will greatly save time and labour.
Walls should be of a nature that stands frequent washing .Tiles should be half away up the wall or at least have the area ,around the sink and stove tiled. The reminder of the wall being washed with washable paint ,oil paint can be used instead of tiles.
Choose plaim wookwork ,finish with light enamel paint .Have the work areas covered with a good in laid linoleyal or better with formica.
The Floors qualities of a good kitchen are as follows:
•should be easily cleaned
•it should be comfortable to the feet
•should be durable ,lighting, there should be good lighting especially over the work areas.
•window should be large enough to provide lighting .A large window over sa large working area is ideal. For artificial lighting the best is the florescent type.
The kitchen must be well ventilated to ensure ordours from food preparation will not penetrate the rest of the house ,Positioning of doors and windows should not cause draught.
Colour Scheme:
Every one has own choice of colour of the kitchen .The kitchen should be sparkling with light .Large pieces of furniture should not be painted with a colour of which one will soon tire ,for example green or brown.
