Art and society

Art defines our whole way of life for instance customs traditions ,norms ,values,language ,habits ,dress and so on.These should be recognised ,respected and transmitted from one generation to the other .One way of doing that is through Art .Activities done in Art help in transmitting culture such activites range from painting,drawing ,pottery ,weaving ,basketry, sculpting ,music and so on.
An Artist is the centre of society in recording asks,sings and yearns.The artist is a mirror of society ,through shows societal faces in terms of beauty ,ugliness of the worst and the best ,pretence of noise , time of hidden knowledge and also in time of environment.
Artists must re-invent the capacity to doubt .Doubts perspectives of political ,religious ,technology as there are other options.Artists have power to shock the society into realising that life can be lived differently and still give "more"dignity to human life .Teaching people to doubt builds power to battle with rhetoric and neglect.This power makes the society humane,alive ,debating or breathing .
Sometimes this is a lonely business and most dangerous one.
True art searches for many truths ,many worlds ,many dreams and new space.Art delves deep into recesses of memory to recall what has been lost,to re-read the imprint of time on our time weary minds(Hove 1993:07)An artist instills a sense of self in society.
Human language ,customs,socio-economic levels ,skills and values vary widely but art express universal things such as love hope fear hunger war and so on.
Art as a reflection of Social and Cultural Context:The subject matter of a work of art exist in a certain places at a certain time ,people and objects reflect fashions and beliefs on the times as well as the state of crafts and sciences.
Art as Immortalisation:The great pyramids of Egypt were designed as tombs.They were meant to endure centuries.
Art as Order and harmony:Artists and scientists have been intrigued by ventured to discover and describe the underlying order of nature in many instances they have tried to find polish the rough edges of nature.

Art as commerce:Art products are place on the markets worldwide.Art is used to sell as well as persuade buyers,make awareness and decorate the products for sell.
The purposes of Art:

•Political views normally brought to the surface by artists through making cartoons,banners,writings ,music etc
•Commemorative through use of sculpture and architect may be symbols and rememberance of heroes

•Expressive of feelings such as love ,hatred ,passion ,fear ,etc
•Art is a communicative in the form of posters ,banners, emblems,various symbols and illustrations
Types of Art:
♦Abstract Art is a term given to forms created by the artist usually derived from objects actually observed or experienced.Abstraction usually involves a simplification of objects to meet the needs of artistic organisation.
♦Representational Art is a manner of expression by the Artist in which the subject matter is presented through the visual elements so that the observer is reminded of actual forms.
♦Abstract Figurative Art is the combination of abstruct art and representational art.
