Detached Houses are the most common houses found in Zimbabwe. It is not joined to either of its neighbours .It is possible to have a drive way of a car at the side of detached house.Detached means standing on their own.
Semi Detached Houses are built in twos and is joined to its neighbours on either side.It is cheaper as compared to detached ,But limited privacy and too noisy.
A Villa :Two or sometimes three storeys .As detached and standing in its own ground in a garden.
Terraced Houses are attached in both sides and most economical use of available land is made.Because of a shortage of building land terraced houses are now becoming popular and often called town houses.
Bungalow have all their accommodation on one floor .They has a larger floor area and requires more land than a house .It can be detached or semi-detached because it has no steers and is very suitable for elderly or disabled people.
Flats maybe purpose built or converted from houses.Accommodation in flats is very variable ,they provide suitable accommodation for single people .A flat built on two levels is called a maisonette. Good to get help from neighbours as you live in a communal living.
There is lots of influence from other people ,too noisy ,no garden ,and much prone to theft and if fire starts many people's properties will be destroyed.
Factors to Consider when Buying /Building or Renting A Home:
Renting is the most convinient method for people who transfer more frequently.Rental costs are generally lower than the owners who usually pays insurance, interest and cost of maintenance.A tenant can move any time to less expensive house or to new location where there is more advantage interms of water ,energy etc or when the area striked by disasters such as earthquakes, volcano, political violence etc.Whereas the landlords has to meet the burden of building costs or looking for a buyer if wants to change location.A Renter can pay rent for two apartments when he has transferred whereas a house owner has to buy another house as he tries to sell the first.
What You Should Know Before You Rent?
The amount to pay and when to pay its dues ie rates ,water and electricity.
Who pays and when ,is it possible to sublet a room or live with anybody.
What form of notice when you want to leave or when you are instructed to vacate? If so how long and how to settle desputes.
Who will responsible for repairs? Rules about children and pets or other livestock.
Is furniture included or you bring your own?
Advantages of Renting:
•If the leasee's income is suddenly lowered he/she easily adjust and opt for less expensive housing ,whereas an owner will have problems ,if he/she hasn't paid off his/her mortgage.
•A renter may move to more modern housing whereas the homeowner will have to remodelling or renovating.
•When planning to go to another location in other town or city ,it is better to rent a house, until you become familiar with the place and then decides where to live.
•If you hurriedly buy a house and then discover that it is rather inconvient to your expectations you will suffer the burden of selling it.
•Usually the renter doesn't trouble to home repaires and renovations as the owner
Disadvantages of Renting:
•You never settle and develop your home. The renter never left a permanant home to his/her children after death.
•The property is damaged by frequent shifting from one place to another.Renting rates are always flatuating as compared to when you build your own house.
